Dotty Wampus
Frequently Asked Questions
Each tasting is guided by Bryan and Joanne (Dotty Wampus doesn't have any employees). Together, we will take you through the magical cottage, with chocolates appearing along the way. The whole experience gets quite surreal at times (drawing on former theme park design and show production experience). We don't want to give away too many surprises, but it will be an afternoon you won't soon forget.
Yes, this is a ticketed experience and we do not take walk-ins. Also tastings often sell out in advance, so we recommend purchasing your tickets a few weeks ahead of time.
No. It's playful, magical, and fun. However we do have one talking Edison doll from the late 1800's that is kinda creepy.
The cottage is located at 30550 County Road H, Cortez Colorado. It is about a mile down a gravel road and sits at the base of Mesa Verde National Park. The property is an agricultural tourism site and as such expect some uneven terrain.
No. The gravel road is fine for a 2-wheel drive car during the spring, summer, and fall. In the winter, you might need one if there has been a recent snow storm.
The chocolate tasting experience lasts for about an hour. People linger in the shop afterwards, so I would allocate about 1 hour in total.
We do not have strobe lights. However, there are some high-tech visual effects. If you need to discuss in detail, please feel free to reach out via email at info@dottywampus.com and will get right back to you.
Some magic effects generate strong electromagnetic fields. It's easy for us to adjust the experience for you and your group to make it safe. Please reach out to discuss at info@dottywampus.com.
Of course! Properly tempering chocolate can only be done in a cool and dry environment.
Obviously, we have many delicious chocolates for sale. We also have bottled beverages (fancy sodas, sparkling water, etc.) and hot tea. It's best to eat before coming here.
We can handle 8 people at a time comfortably and 12 less comfortably. If you have a larger group please reach out at info@dottywampus.com and we can discuss ways of accommodating.
All of the chocolates are gluten free. We don't have Vegan and dairy free truffles yet. But we are working on it. We expect that by the 2025 season we will have full tastings for Vegans and the lactose intolerant. NOTE: The kitchen prepares food with allergens including nuts and dairy.
We cannot accommodate late guests as we operate on a tight schedule during tour days. If you arrive a few minutes late you can simply join your group, but you will miss out on the tastings that have already been presented. If you are very late, we will try to accommodate you at a later time slot - provided that the later slots are not sold out.
Of course! We are a farm, on a gravel road, with a chocolate kitchen in a 75 year old cottage... So the environment can be challenging for some. However, we will work to make any accommodation we can. Please reach out to discuss your needs at info@dottywampus.com.
We do not allow cancelations within the 14 days prior to your tour (as we sell tickets in advance). However, we understand things come up. If you send us an email within 48 hours of your scheduled tour, we will work with you to reschedule.
